New year tours backstage at His Majesty’s Theatre
The new year kicks off a new season of behind-the-scenes tours of Aberdeen’s historic His Majesty’s Theatre.
The Saturday morning 75-minute tours, which lift the curtain on the inside story of the history and day-to-day workings of the Edwardian theatre, will be held at 10.30am on January 26, February 9 and 16, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, and April 6, 20 and 27.
There will be an additional tour from 11.30am on three Saturdays – March 23, March 30 and April 20.
Numbers are limited to only 20 people per tour, on a first-come-first-served basis.
Under the guidance of enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, visitors can explore His Majesty’s modern £7.8 million extension as well as the 100-year-old original building, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham.
There’s an opportunity to get onstage and get a performers-eye view of one of the most beautiful theatres in Britain. Then it’s backstage for a glimpse of the inner workings of a busy theatre – and pick up some inside knowledge of its spooky past.
Tickets for the public tours costs £5 (£3 concession) and can be booked through Aberdeen Box Office online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, in person at the Music Hall or His Majesty’s Theatre or by phone on 01224 641122. They are subject to availability and sell out very quickly.
Free tours for schools can be organised, according to availability and scheduling, and information on these and individual tours for groups is available from Aberdeen Performing Arts acting creative learning manager Claire Davidson on 01224 337684 or at claire.davidson@aberdeenperformingarts.com
