Acker Bilk - Northern Edge jazz Festival

With a career spanning more than five decades Acker Bilk – Great Master of the Clarinet, band leader and composer - has helped popularise traditional jazz through his music, introducing a whole generation to music that had previously been the preserve of the beatnik generation and the American New Orleans and Chicago jazz scenes. With a string of hits in the early 1960s, Acker famously topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with his composition 'Stranger on the Shore'. synonymous with his famous bowler hat and striped waistcoat he is one of the most successful and best loved British jazz musicians of all time.
